Disk Drill approaches recovery from several angles at once: a fast scan for recent deletions, a deep signature scan for filesystem-damaged volumes, and a Lost Partition module that reconstructs erased volume structures before searching inside them. Session state is saved, so a scan that ran for hours can be resumed after a reboot.
Two features stand out for physical problems: byte-level backup images an unstable drive read-only so subsequent scans work on a snapshot instead of the failing hardware, and drive health monitoring reports SMART warnings.
