How to Install Adobe Premiere Pro 2026 on Windows 11 (Full Guide)
From unpacking the 8.4 GB archive to your first export, plus the two errors that stop the installer on a fresh system.
Premiere Pro 2026 installs from a single offline package, but the installer is picky about three things: leftover Creative Cloud files, write access to Program Files and an outdated GPU driver. Here is the whole process, from unpacking the archive to a first export.
What you need first
Premiere Pro 2026 asks for Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, 16 GB of RAM and a GPU with at least 4 GB of VRAM if you plan to cut 4K footage. Set aside 12 GB of free space for the install and another 40 to 60 GB for media cache, which grows quickly on long projects. Close any browser tab with a Creative Cloud page open and pause third-party antivirus for the duration of setup. Windows Defender alone does not interfere with the installer.
Step-by-step install
- Unpack the 8.4 GB archive with 7-Zip or WinRAR into a normal folder, not into a download folder you clean up later.
- Open the folder, right-click Set-up.exe and choose Run as administrator.
- If SmartScreen warns about an unknown publisher, click More info and then Run anyway.
- Let the progress bar run: 8 to 15 minutes on an SSD, closer to 25 on a mechanical drive.
- Do not close the window, even if it looks frozen during the licensing step.
- Launch Premiere Pro from the Start menu. Activation is applied automatically on first run.
First-run settings that save time later
Before importing anything, open Preferences and point the media cache and scratch disks at a fast SSD rather than the system drive. Enable GPU acceleration in Project Settings if your card supports it, which alone can double the smoothness of scrubbing. Finally, shorten the auto-save interval to five minutes; the default ten is too slow for serious timeline work.
Two errors worth knowing
Error 183 means a previous Adobe install left files behind: remove the leftover directories under Program Files and ProgramData, then run the installer again. A progress bar stuck at zero is almost always a permissions problem, so kill the process in Task Manager, clear the temp folder and rerun as administrator. If Premiere launches with a black preview window, update the GPU driver first and only fall back to software rendering if the driver is already current.
Keep the install healthy
Turn off automatic updates for this build, since an update can overwrite patched files. Keep the original archive on a second drive as well: reinstalling from a local copy takes minutes, and re-downloading 8.4 GB does not.
