How to Install Microsoft Office 2026 (Word, Excel, Outlook) Step by Step

Office 2026 installs offline from a single package, with activation applied during setup. The main pitfall is old Office leftovers: a partially removed Microsoft 365 install will block the new one and throw a vague error. Clean up first, then install.
Remove the old suite first
Open Installed apps in Settings and uninstall every Office component you can find: Office, Microsoft 365, individual apps such as Word or Outlook, and any Click-to-Run entries. Reboot before continuing. If entries refuse to disappear, run the official Office removal tool rather than deleting folders by hand, because orphaned registry keys are what break the new install.
Installation
- Unpack the 5.8 GB archive with 7-Zip or WinRAR.
- Right-click Setup.exe and choose Run as administrator.
- Pick a custom install if you do not need Access or Publisher; it saves several gigabytes.
- Wait for the installer, roughly 6 to 12 minutes on an SSD.
- Open Word once from the Start menu. No product key prompt and no account prompt should appear.

After the install
Sign out of OneDrive if you do not want documents syncing to the cloud, and decide about updates early.
